The UN lists “reduce child mortality” and “improve maternal health” as two of eight Millennium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015. Sandoz is committed to supporting the achievement of these goals by increasing access to high-quality, affordable medicines, as well as healthcare services and education for mothers and children around the world.

In 2015, Sandoz announced the launch of a new program, New Life & New Hope, to improve maternal and child health and reduce mortality associated with childbirth. New Life & New Hope, a Sandoz corporate responsibility program, is committed to sponsoring four Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care trainings for 100 healthcare professionals, or midwives, in Ethiopia. The trainings of these 100 midwives will impact the care of approximately 40,000 pregnant women in the Addis Ababa area. The trainings are facilitated by the Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMA).

In 2014, Sandoz announced a long-term commitment to help prevent the deaths of millions of children worldwide by supplying a key antibiotic formulation, as part of the United Nations’ new Every Newborn Action Plan, delivering 100,000 packs of amoxicillin 250mg dispersible tablets (DT) to the United Nations (UN) in that same year.
